Need opinions on next purchase - Elitist Casino vs Gretsch 6xxx series
I have cash burning a hole in my pocket and two options to pick from. I've honed in on a hollow-body to balance out my current lineup and torn between what would be the right pick be it either an Elitist Casino or Gretsch 6xxx series a la 6117/6119 or 6120.
My style/influences are classic / blues based rock, indie rock and brit pop/rock.
On one hand I feel a Casino would be the more versatile guitar across these styles but something about that Bigsby is just so appealing. I suppose I could put a Bigsby on the Casino but it just looks proper on a Gretsch.
What you guys do? I have a Tele, Strat and Les Paul going into a Princeton Reverb and Vox AC15.

For me, Gretsch all the way. I have and love two Gretsches - 6118 and 6114 "New Jet." I had an Ibanez version of a Casino but even after pickup upgrades, fretwork, Bigsby, setup. It just wasn't doing it for me. YMMV, of course.

I have a 6120 and an elitist casino, which I play into an AC15 and hot rod deluxe and both into either amp with a bit of compression or overdrive is a fantastic sound.
Going on what you play and my preference I would say casino especially as you can always add a bigsby.
I find that The casino is also easier to go to from a strat or tele due to the thinner body than the gretsch.
I would then be saving up for a Gretsch
Excuse the bad ipad photo but here are the two of them with my 335

There's nothing quite like the sound of Filtertrons plugged into a Vox. They work really well together.

I'd go Casino for sure. A little over a month ago I picked up a Vintage '63 ES-330 w/ stock Bigsby, and the guitar sounds amazing.
You can get overdriven sustained musical feedback that sounds awesome, as well as a variety of great
clean tones in all 3 positions.
These Casinos and 330's with the Bigsby just make them so versatile.
Pick of my '63 330:

I've got a Gretsch White Falcon (doublecut) and an Epi ES-339 Pro P90.
Honestly, the Epi gets more playing time. The Gretsch is an amazing guitar, but it tends to get muddy if I add too much gain. The Epi is just flat-out more versatile, but the Falcon has 'that Gretsch sound'.
The Epi can go from country, to Jazz, to rock. Those P90s push overdrive (when needed) easier than Filtertrons. I've often thought about ditching the WF for an Elitist Casino, but I got such a good deal on my Gretsch NEW that I don't think I'd likely get that again.
Like IR79 said, I'd get the Elitist Casino, then save up for a Gretsch if you're still feeling that need. I also wouldn't hesitate to put a Bigsby on it; gives it more of a vintage look, if you ask me.

Great thanks for all of the replies. After weighing the pros and cons and what I think will be the more widely used instrument in the end, I will be taking the Casino today.

You have two good candidates there for appropriate sound. One clear winner in terms of build quality and QC.
When it comes to build quality and QC, I would take any post-2003 proline Gretsch over any elitist Epiphone any day. The elitists I've handled haven't been on the same level as the proline Gretsches I've played. They are good, but not proline good. Plus, the filtertrons or dynasonics will add more variety to your sound than the P90's will (I love P90's, but I LOVE filtertrons).
A big hollowbody Gretsch does take some getting used to, but more for the control layout than the size. If you've ever played an acoustic guitar, then a Gretsch's size will be easy to deal with. As for sound, you can dismiss any sentence that begins with "A Gretsch can't do. " For any genre, there's a Gretsch that can do it. For the genres you've listed (my genres, too) the big hollowbodies can definitely hang.
Where the Casino will have it all over the Gretsch is upper fret access. If you spend a significant amount of time in the upper frets, the Gretsch will make you work. It's doable, even for a guy like me with "butcher" hands (ham-fisted, with sausage fingers), but will be easier, OK much easier, on the Casino.
I have a very nice ES-335, tricked out, Wagner Crossroad pickups, piezo. Really versatile. Plays great. It's been on a lot of gigs - but not one since I got my Gretsch Falcon.
Nor on any recordings. I have several on the Falcon. If you want to hear it, click on the link in my sig. Devil Tree was recorded on the Falcon (you can also watch it in the video If you're still interested after hearing that, I have some recordings using the Falcon in a live rock'n'roll setting.

I'd prefer a gretsch personally. My favorite is the older style Brian Setzer Hot Rod, that came with a very slight V neck and TV Jones classic pickups, and no mud switch. Man that guitar sounds awesome!
My bandmate has an epi casino. Nothing wrong with that guitar, but even the elitist ver will never sound like my Gretsch.

I thought the Proline Gretschs and Elitist Casinos were both made in the Terada factory in Japan. If I'm not wrong, then I wouldn't expect much disparity between the two in build quality or qc.

Have they fattened the neck of the Elitist Casino, if not the Lennon or 59 casino are the Epi's you want. I have only tried one Elitist Casino and the neck was skinny. If you have no issue with skinny necks compared to a nicer better sounding beefy neck, then go for it. The Gretsch probably has a beefier neck.

Ahh wow, the timing of this is funny, I just bumped a Casino thread yesterday that was from 2013 to see if they were in fact made at Terada and how they shaped up with proline Gretsches. Good feedback in here. Let us know how you get on with the new arrival, I might follow suit I think.

You can't go wrong with either guitar.
I have the Black Falcon, along with a mid 1980's 335 Gibson dot.
The Casino is cool, but I would maybe look at the 6120 + of Gretsch guitars.
The Falcon produces a tone that no other guitar can match, along with the Bigsby.

I haven't tried the Elitist or that particular Gretsch model, but Casinos in general feel a lot more comfortable to me (neck carve + body size) than Gretsches in general.

Can't go wrong with either, but have you played HiloTrons before? They're not everyone's cup of tea. If I was getting the HT I would probably also factor in a pair of TV Jones HiloTrons.
